Community Guidelines.

How members treat each other inside Cohab, and what we do when someone doesn’t.

Effective October 7, 2026Version 1.0

01The spirit of the club

Everyone inside Cohab applied, sat the interview and was read by a committee. That’s a promise members make to each other: I am who I say I am, and I’ll treat you the way I’d want to be treated by someone I might live with.

These guidelines apply everywhere on Cohab, including profiles, listings, requests and chats, and to how you behave with members you meet in person. They sit alongside our Terms of Use.

02Respect

  • Be direct and kind. A clear “no” is fine; silence after a conversation has started isn’t.
  • Keep it about the home and the fit. Cohab isn’t a dating app; don’t treat it like one.
  • Respect a declined request or a closed conversation. Don’t try again under another account or reach out elsewhere.

03Honest photos & listings

  • Photos of you must be recent, of you alone or clearly identifying you, and unedited beyond basic lighting.
  • Room photos must show the actual room and home being offered, as it is now.
  • State rent, deposit, lease terms, fees and requirements accurately and up front. No surprise costs later.
  • Answer interview questions truthfully, including the lifestyle ones. Fit only works if the facts are real.

04No harassment, hate or explicit content

We don’t allow:

  • threats, intimidation, stalking, or encouraging anyone to harm themselves;
  • slurs, hate speech, or attacks on anyone based on race, ethnicity, national origin, religion, gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, disability, age or any other protected characteristic;
  • sexual or nude content, sexual advances or requests, or anything involving minors;
  • repeated unwanted contact, insults or pressure.

05No discrimination

Choose roommates for fit: habits, schedule, household rhythm. Don’t exclude people because of who they are. Don’t write requirements in your listing or messages that target a protected group.

The one narrowing Cohab offers is a filter that lets anyone limit who they see to their own gender, for comfort in a shared home. Narrowing to anyone else’s isn’t a thing here.

06No off-platform payments

Protect yourself

Never ask for or send money before you have seen the room in person and signed a written agreement. Never pay by wire transfer, gift card, cryptocurrency or a payment app to someone you haven’t met.

  • Don’t ask members for “holding fees,” application fees or deposits through Cohab chats.
  • Don’t move a conversation off Cohab to avoid our safety tools, and be wary of anyone who pushes you to.
  • No selling, advertising, recruiting, or selling Cohab invitations.

07Others’ privacy

  • Don’t screenshot, share or post another member’s photos, messages or details outside Cohab.
  • Don’t share someone’s address, phone number or workplace without their permission.

08Report & block

Every member card, request and chat has a menu with Report and Block. You can also long-press a message to report it.

  • Report for: misleading photos; harassment or behavior; fake profile or scam; off-platform payment request; spam; or anything else, with an optional note.
  • Block removes the member from your Discover, requests and chats immediately. It works both ways: they won’t see or contact you either. Blocks can only be undone by contacting support.
  • Reporting doesn’t tell the other member who reported them.
Our commitment

We review every report within 24 hours. When content breaks these guidelines we remove it, and we remove the member who posted it. Cohab has zero tolerance for objectionable content and abusive users.

If someone is in immediate danger, call 911 first, then tell us at support@cohabnow.com.

09Enforcement

We match the response to what happened:

  1. A note. For honest mistakes, such as an outdated photo or a missing detail, we’ll ask you to fix it.
  2. Content removed. Content that breaks the guidelines is hidden or deleted, with a warning.
  3. Suspension. Repeated or more serious problems pause your access while we review.
  4. Removal. Your membership ends and you can’t rejoin. There is no refund from Cohab.

Zero-tolerance violations skip straight to removal: threats or violence, hate speech, sexual content or anything involving minors, scams and payment fraud, impersonation, and serious harassment. Where appropriate, we also report them to the authorities.

If you think we got it wrong, email support@cohabnow.com within 30 days and a different reviewer will look again.
