01In short
- We collect what the committee and other members need to judge fit, plus what keeps the club safe.
- We don’t sell your personal information, and we don’t share it for cross-context behavioral advertising.
- Apple handles your payments; we never see your card.
- You can delete your account, and the data that goes with it, from inside the app.
This policy explains how [Cohab legal entity name] (“Cohab,” “we”) handles personal information in the Cohab app and at cohabnow.com. It’s part of our Terms of Use.
02What we collect
Your account and application
- Name, email address, date of birth or age confirmation, and sign-in credentials.
- Your interview answers: your situation (looking or hosting), city and neighborhoods, budget and move-in timing, work and schedule, household rhythm, and essays and prompt answers.
- Gender, used to display your profile and to power the optional own-gender filter.
- Lifestyle answers, including whether you smoke, drink or use drugs, and pets and guests. These are sensitive. Answer only what you’re comfortable with; we show them plainly on your card so fit is clear.
- Photos of you and, for hosts, of the room and home.
- For hosts: listing details such as rent, lease terms, amenities and requirements.
Using the club
- Requests you send and receive, with their notes; members you pass on, accept, decline or block.
- Messages you exchange with other members.
- Reports you file or that are filed about you, and our moderation decisions.
- Invitations you send and the codes you use.
Verification (optional)
- If you choose to verify, the documents or data needed for that check: a government ID, proof of income, or a signed lease. We keep the result (a badge) and limit access to the underlying documents.
Purchases
- Apple processes your subscription. We receive confirmation of your membership status, renewal and expiry from Apple, never your payment card details.
Technical data
- Basic device and app information needed to run the Service and fix problems, such as app version, device model, operating system and crash diagnostics. We do not track you across other companies’ apps or websites.
03How we use it
- Matching. To show your card to members in your city, filter who you see, and route requests and chats.
- Committee review. Reviewers read your application to decide on membership.
- Safety and integrity. To filter objectionable content, review reports, detect fraud and scams, enforce our Terms and Community Guidelines, and remove members who break them.
- Running Cohab. To manage your membership, provide support, send service messages, and fix and improve the app.
- Legal. To meet legal obligations and respond to lawful requests.
Where laws require a legal basis, we rely on performing our contract with you, our legitimate interest in a safe club, your consent (which you can withdraw, for example for verification), and legal obligations.
05How long we keep it
- While you’re a member or applicant, we keep your account and application.
- Declined or withdrawn applications are kept for [e.g. 12 months] so the committee can handle reapplications, then deleted, unless you delete sooner.
- When you delete your account, we delete your profile, application, photos, requests and messages from active systems within [e.g. 30 days]. Backup copies expire on a rolling basis within [e.g. 90 days].
- Safety records. We may keep a minimal record of reports and removals, including reports you filed, for as long as needed to keep removed members out and to meet legal obligations.
- Verification documents are deleted once the check is complete, keeping only the result.
06Deleting your account
Delete your account any time in the app: Profile › Account › Delete account. Applicants still in review can use “Delete my application & account” on the review screen. This permanently deletes your account, application, profile, photos, requests and chats.
If you can’t access the app, email support@cohabnow.com from your account email and we’ll delete it for you.
Deleting your account doesn’t cancel your App Store subscription. Cancel it in your Apple Account settings.
07Your choices & rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, download or delete your personal information, to object to or restrict some uses, and to withdraw consent. You can edit most of your profile in the app. For anything else, email support@cohabnow.com. We’ll verify it’s you and respond within the time the law requires, and we won’t treat you differently for asking.
08Security
We protect your information with encryption in transit and at rest, limited staff access, and secure storage of credentials. No system is perfectly secure; if a breach affects you, we’ll notify you as the law requires.
09Adults only
Cohab is for people 18 and over. We don’t knowingly collect information from anyone under 18. If you believe a minor has an account, tell us at support@cohabnow.com and we’ll remove it.
10Changes & contact
If we make material changes, we’ll tell you in the app or by email before they take effect.
